Technical Project Manager

Fast Lane Consulting and Education Services, Inc. is a leading Global IT Training Company with its North America headquarters located in Morrisville, North Carolina. Fast Lane offers a broad array of hands-on vendor-authorized IT training classes including Cisco Systems, NetApp, IBM, Ubuntu, and VMware, as well as vendor neutral courses developed in house.

DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-time remote position handling multiple projects at a time according to project Statements of Work (SOWs).

The Technical Project Manager MUST have experience with at least one large technical computing company (such as Cisco, IBM, Red Hat, NetApp, etc.). Technical knowledge is essential in this role.

In addition, the Technical Project Manager MUST have experience with technical training and instructional design, preferably with one of the large technical computing companies listed above. Applicants without technical training experience will NOT be considered for this position.

The role of the Technical Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize technical projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes coordinating the efforts of team members and contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan and schedule. The Project Manager (PM) will also oversee quality control throughout the project lifecycle. The PM will serve as the primary point of contact for the customer and will work closely with the customer PM counterpart.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage technical content development projects from beginning to end.
  • Coordinate schedules and resources across global multiple content-development teams.
  • Manage a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as well as instructional designers, content developers, graphic developers and editors.
  • Define project deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Develop full scale project plans and associated communications documents.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Estimate the resources needed to achieve project goals.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Document events and project budgets in our proprietary software reporting tool.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, and requirements documentation to project stakeholders and senior management.
  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationship vital to the success of the project.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in a Business Management, Computer Science, or similar discipline required. Technical project management experience a must with preference for experience with a multi-national IT company.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process and content development and execution.
  • Candidate must have technical training and instructional design experience. Applicants without this experience will not be considered for this position.
  • Strong project management background in training and development of technology-based courses with Agile methodology experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (including MS Project) required.
  • Superior grammar and editing skills essential; basic graphic editing skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of E-learning standards (AICC, SCORM) and content development tools such as Flash, Articulate, and Captivate are helpful, but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
  • Ability to defuse tensions with project team members should they arise.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment is crucial.
  • Ability to bring project to successful completion on time and under budget.
  • Limited travel required - >10%.
