Cisco Announces CCNA Revision and New Certification

On June 25th, Cisco annoucned a revision to the CCNA certification and the introduction of a brand-new entry level certification, CCENT.

CCNA Revisions

The revised CCNA curriculum will consist of two equally-weighted 5-day courses, ICND Part 1 and ICND Part 2. Both courses are based on a common topology featuring updated Cisco equipment and IOS, including ISR routers. Covering of troubleshooting has been extended, and introduction to wireless concepts and terminology has also been included. Both courses will offer more compelling lab exercises and include more time for hands-on practice and labs.

Recommended Courses:

Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 1, Version 1.1 (ICND1) This course focuses on providing the skills and knowledge necessary to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small branch office Enterprise network, including, configuring a switch, a router, and connecting to a WAN and implementing network security. A student should be able to complete configuration and implementation of a small branch office network under supervision.
Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 2, Version 1.1 (ICND2) This course focuses on providing the skills and knowledge necessary to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium-size branch office Enterprise network, including configuring several switches and routers, connecting to a WAN and implementing network security.
The CCNA certification will validate the ability to install, operate and troubleshoot a secure, medium-sized enterprise network. This certification will prepare students for careers in networking and provide a solid foundation for deeper study and specialized training.

New CCENT Certification

The Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) certification validates the skills required for entry-level network support positions, the starting point for many successful careers in networking. Candidates should have the knowledge and skill to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. The CCENT certification is the first step toward achieving CCNA, which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections. Go here for more certification details.
