Cisco Prime Optical is Cisco optical network management system used to manage all Cisco optical devices and high-end routers. The Cisco Prime Optical Operation and Maintenance course enables the students to use the Prime Optical network management system to manage a variety of Cisco optical devices. Working in small groups from two to three people, students complete a wide range of tasks covering many functionalities of the Prime Optical software. They start with the installation procedures of the client, followed by the management of the network elements and administration of Prime Optical software and users. The focus of the course in on the element management, including configuration, performance monitoring, inventory, security, fault management and reporting. At the end the course is covering system administration and troubleshooting discussion.

Who should attend

This course is a necessity for technicians responsible for setting up and operating the Cisco Prime Optical software including optical element management, configuration, performance monitoring, inventory, security, fault management and reporting. Channel partners, resellers and customers are welcome to attend.


To gain maximum benefit from the course, students need experience in the following:

  • Optical equipment fundamentals including SONET or SDH fundamentals and DWDM fundamentals.
  • It is recommended that students attend Cisco optical equipment course prior to attend Cisco Prime Optical Operation and Maintenance Training course.

It is also recommended that students attending this class take the Cisco ONS 15454 Provisioning and Operation Training.
